Happy Spring from Career Services!

Spring is finally upon us! This winter has felt especially long and dreary as we trudge through feet of snow and another semester of virtual learning. The sun and flower buds are a welcome site from my home office these days. Here are some (career related) ways to celebrate the arrival of Spring!

Spring Cleaning

Now that it’s warmer outside, I find myself feeling the need to clear out all the old winter jackets and deep cleaning the dusty crevices in my house. The same sentiment could apply to your career journey. Get your job or internship search organized by setting up saved searches in Handshake, using a free job search app, or creating a good old fashioned spreadsheet. A system like CareerShift can help with finding contacts as well as setting deadlines and reminders for yourself in the networking process. Getting organized first can help the search be much more productive!

Spending Time Outside

In a virtual environment, it’s easy to forget the outside world exists and instead spend all our time inside in front of a computer screen. Even spending small amounts of time outside can make a huge difference! Here are some of my favorite books for you to browse while enjoying some sun:

Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived Joyful Life

The Mailroom: Hollywood History from the Bottom Up

Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead

Take a Break

While it’s great to spend time working towards your career goals, it’s also okay to take a break and reset especially you feel like something is not working. Give yourself permission to take some time off and not think about jobs, internships and your future. Career Services will be here when you are ready to develop your strategy, prep for interviews or just check in. Happy Spring and we hope to see you soon!
