Looking for Summer Funding? Apply Here!

Have you heard? Penn Career Services offers Summer Funding awards to support select students participating in work experiences that are unfunded or underfunded this summer.

You are invited to apply if you meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • You are a currently enrolled, full-time, undergraduate student that is graduating in December 2022 or later
  • You receive financial aid from Penn
  • You have an offer for an internship, research opportunity, or service program this summer that is either unfunded or underfunded
    • You do not need to have accepted the offer yet, though
    • Your opportunity must be for at least 8 weeks and for at least 30 hours per week
    • Your opportunity must not require a fee (unless it is affiliated with Penn)

In order to apply, you must submit the following as part of your application:

  • Application form
  • Your resume
  • A personal statement (no more than 450 words) explaining how this opportunity aligns with your career goals and how this funding would help address any specific needs you have
  • A detailed budget (note that preference will be given to students who submit a modest budget that demonstrate an ability to live economically)
  • Internship offer letter/email

The third and last round of applications are due Sunday, April 17th at 11:00pm EST.

Still have questions? See the FAQs below:

1) Is funding guaranteed?

This is a competitive process, and while not every applicant will be selected, Career Services aims to support as many students as possible.

2) What can/can’t the funding be used for?

Career Services Summer Funding can be used for:

  • Costs associated with your summer professional experience (travel, living, special equipment for your experience, etc.)

Career Services Summer Funding cannot be used for:

  • Future academic year costs
  • Tax payments
  • Helping with family expenses at home
  • Summer courses

3) Can I apply with an international opportunity?

Because of the pandemic and various country-specific travel restrictions, Career Services Summer Funding program will not consider applications that require international travel. However, international students with an opportunity in their home country may apply. In addition, U.S. students can apply for funding to support a virtual international opportunity where projects can be completed domestically.

4) What if I am a Highly Aided student?

Highly aided students should apply directly through the SRFS process and not through the Career Services process.

5) How much is the typical Summer Funding award?

Award amounts vary. In 2021, awards ranged from $5,00 – $4,000, which was the maximum possible award for that year. The average award amount in 2021 was $2,636.

For 2022, the maximum award amount was increased to $4,5oo.
