Anyone interested in becoming a stage actor dreams of landing that big starring role on Broadway. Sure, they probably expect to start out small – perhaps in the chorus, then to a supporting role, then to featured, then top billing. Maybe they dream of being one of those fabled understudies who gets to go on for an ailing star last minute and becomes an overnight sensation?
But what about other ways on to the stage? Major Broadway productions don’t just have understudies, they have alternates, swings, and stand-bys as well. They’re all “entry level” acting jobs that could have you suddenly thrust into the spotlight and on the road to stardom…or just waiting in the wings.
Playbill.com recently did a great in depth article describing exactly what each of these jobs are, and how you might set your sites on them as your first job! Read the full article here.
