The Penn Undergraduate Mentoring Program (PURM) offers some great opportunities for pre-health students to build their research and professional skills. Administered by CURF, the deadline for PURM applications is February 16, 2025.
Students who go into the health professions engage with a wide range of research experiences including lab work, clinical research, social science and humanities research, and policy investigations. Last year through PURM, for example, a student engaged with clinical research focused on the physical and cognitive health of Spanish-speaking elder Philadelphians through Tiempo Juntos Por Nuestra Salud.
Health professions schools will appreciate all research endeavors that demonstrate your interests because they reflect a curious mind, disciplined investigation, collaborative orientation, and attention to detail. Moreover, through opportunities like PURM, students develop their communication skills, sharing their work in formal and informal settings.
