This summer, I had the opportunity to intern in London at Javelin Global Commodities, a trading firm specializing in commodity markets. Javelin has provided me with an immersive experience into the world of trading and market analysis, aligning perfectly with my interests in policy and markets. During my internship, I learned about l the mechanics of commodity trading, where I gained hands-on experience with market analysis, risk assessment, and trading strategies. I analyzed market trends and trade flows across three different commodities teams — bulks, metals, and greens — to better understand the role of geopolitics in the commodity space.

The most valuable experience during my internship was working closely with experienced traders and analysts. Their mentorship offered me valuable insights into the practical applications of trading theories and the nuances of navigating market volatility. I engaged in daily briefings and strategy sessions that helped me understand the real-time decision-making processes that drive trading strategies and market positioning.

Beyond the technical aspects, my internship allowed me to appreciate the human side of trading. I was able to observe the intricacy of logistics and analytical skills of the team, highlighting the critical role of teamwork, adaptability, and continuous learning in the finance industry.

Additionally, working in London has provided me with a unique opportunity to experience a new culture. The diverse team, made up of individuals from various backgrounds has deepened my appreciation for new ideas, work styles, and career paths. This summer at Javelin Global Commodities has significantly broadened my understanding of financial markets and reinforced my passion for policy and finance. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and for all the support provided by Penn Career Services.
