The World of New York Real Estate

This summer, I had the opportunity to intern at OPEN Impact Real Estate. OPEN is a social impact-focused real estate brokerage serving nonprofit and corporate clients, and the firm is also JLL’s exclusive Women-Based Enterprise affiliate. During this experience, I was able to gain a hands-on look into New York’s real estate industry. I visited multiple client sites in various boroughs, and I also spoke with industry professionals across JLL and other established companies.

I truly enjoyed driving the firm’s investment thesis, leading business development initiatives on a local and national scale, writing client-facing leasing documents, and familiarizing myself with common CRM and market research software tools that were specific to JLL as well as those accepted as the industry standard. The learning I experienced this summer was truly eye-opening. I will move forward into any future endeavors with a better grasp of the fundamentals of real estate, consulting for various types of clients, and navigating large-scale strategy.

One of my favorite projects involved benchmarking against top industry players through a variety of important impact-centric metrics, particularly with a focus on supplier diversity. I was able to connect concepts I learned in class to the real world through creating new data tracking formats and then drawing conclusions from the trends in data that were discovered. It was rewarding and fulfilling to spend time servicing mission-aligned clients at a firm dedicated to its values.

Moving forward, I am excited to apply the experiences I gained this summer through bonding with my colleagues, touring properties, studying investments, and more!
