Growth Takes Time: Navigating Your Career in Spring

Across campus, spring is hard to miss. Trees are blooming, flowers are reappearing, and there is a sense that everything is moving forward again. This time of year, can feel similar for students. Internship decisions are being finalized, job offers are coming in, and graduation is quickly approaching. It is easy to look around and feel like others have everything figured out. Career growth, however, does not happen all at once, and it rarely follows a single, predictable timeline.

For some students, spring brings a sense of clarity. Plans are confirmed and next steps feel certain. For others, this season can feel more uncertain. You may still be applying, reconsidering your direction, or unsure about what comes next. Both experiences are valid, and both are part of the career development process. Growth often happens in ways that are not immediately visible. It shows up in the applications you have submitted, the conversations you have initiated, and the skills you have continued to build. It is also present in moments when plans did not work out, but you gained insight into what you want moving forward. These experiences contribute to a stronger foundation over time.

If you are feeling behind, it can be helpful to shift how you define progress. Instead of focusing only on outcomes, consider the steps you are taking. Exploring different paths, connecting with alumni or professionals, reflecting on your interests, and continuing to engage with the process all reflect meaningful growth. As the semester comes to a close, it is important to remember that careers are not defined by a single moment or season. The timelines you see around you do not capture the full picture of anyone’s journey, including your own.

If you are still navigating your next steps, support is available through Penn Career Services. You can schedule advising appointments, access job and internship resources, and connect with alumni across a range of industries. Whether you are refining your resume, preparing for interviews, or exploring options, these resources are here to support you.

Spring is a reminder that growth takes time. The same is true for your career.
