This summer with the support of Penn Career Services Summer Funding Grant, I had the amazing opportunity of interning as a Commercial Risk Management Intern at Ever.Ag. For the duration of the summer, I worked out of the Chicago office, which without the support of the Summer Funding Grant would not have been possible. Ever.Ag provides comprehensive software, risk management, and market intelligence solutions for the entire agriculture and food supply chain, from farm to table. My internship allowed me to learn about all aspects of the company, with a focus in commercial dairy risk management.
During my internship, I focused on researching, compiling, and organizing data which supported the Commercial team’s client expansion efforts. I also worked on optimizing internal expenses, creating internal procedures to maintain optimization of internal expenses in the future, building financial models, and providing support to members of the Commercial Risk Management team. Beyond these tasks, I gained hands-on knowledge about everything from classes of milk to option Greeks. I was able to take a course to refine my skills in excel and applied what I learned from the course during my internship. I really appreciated the employees that took the time to teach classes to myself and my fellow interns on a variety of topics.
Prior to interning at Ever.Ag I was not familiar with anything related to agriculture or risk management. I was able to learn from experts in their field and have a hands-on approach to learning the commodities markets. Commodities have risk associated with them as depending on geopolitics, weather and other factors prices can be very unpredictable.
I am incredibly grateful to have experienced the amazing work culture Ever.Ag has to offer. Every member of the Ever.Ag team I had the pleasure of interacting with were eager to support me during my internship and willing to offer a helping hand at a moment’s notice. Outside of work, I was provided with a number of recommendations for food, attractions, events and beyond by my entire office when they learned I had never been to Chicago before. Over the duration of my internship, I visited a dairy farm and cheese manufacturing plant, participated in Ever.Ag’s summer beach volleyball league, and bonded with my fellow interns inside and outside of the office.
