This session will guide master’s students through the internship search process, from identifying opportunities to crafting tailored applications. Learn how to research employers, leverage resources like Career Services platforms, and develop a proactive search strategy.  

Penn graduate students and postdocs are highly accomplished individuals, often with numerous awards, honors, publications, leadership positions, or other academic achievements to their name. But employers make hiring decisions based on skills and impact, not classroom achievement. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to effectively articulate your accomplishments from both academic and extracurricular experiences. We’ll discuss strategies for highlighting skills, outcomes, and impact in resumes, cover letters, and interviews, ensuring that your qualifications are well aligned with employers’ expectations.

But competition for internships is fiercer than ever, and some career paths don’t offer formal internship opportunities. So, how else can you professionalize and begin building marketable skills? Join us for this workshop on other ways to gain professional experience as a graduate student or postdoc. Learn about the student groups, experiential learning programs, and offices on campus that can support your professional development; discover where to find contract work or volunteer opportunities; and build your confidence in your transferable skills.
