Founded in 1955, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation’s premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. The MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) is funded by the National Institutes of Health and is a collaborative, multi-center, longitudinal study designed to comprehensively investigate the progression of HIV infection and co-morbid disease in women and men. There are about 300 HIV-infected women and HIV-uninfected high-risk women currently enrolled in the Bronx MWCCS. In addition to the core study, study participants may also be enrolled in several sub studies associated with the MWCCS. Participants are seen for the core study annually and sub-studies which may include more than one visit per year. Study visits for the core study consist of a comprehensive interview covering participant’s medical history and health care utilization, psychosocial status, substance abuse history and sexual behavior. Blood is drawn for immediate testing and for repository. Participants also undergo a medical exam and gynecological collection.
- The Research Coordinator assists the Project Director in providing managerial oversight of this multi-sight program, personnel supervision, collaboration in development of research methods, and implementation of new protocols, data management oversight, and participation in national study workgroups.
- Assures regulatory requirements are met in all outreach institutions and communicates with the IRB at Einstein/Montefiore assures quality assurances in all aspects of study protocols, communicates with laboratories and community practitioners. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Einstein/Montefiore Medical Center’s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
- The Research Coordinator will have direct supervision on 9 staff.
- The Research Coordinator will serve as the manager of field operations, supervise outreach workers/interviewers, and oversee all recruitment and data collection activities and protocol implementations. This includes developing and revising protocols and data collection instruments and overseeing data collection activities.
- Communicates with collaborating agencies and institutions within the Einstein/Montefiore complex such as IRB. Manages petty cash fund.
- Responsible for clinical study implementation including IRB processing, laboratory liaison and computerized documentation.
- Oversees and coordinates field activities and standardized procedures. Maintains and works towards enhancing retention rates. Organizes staff meeting, retreats, etc.
- Responsible for improving and maintaining retention rates of cohort.
- Meets regularly with research staff, faculty, lab personnel and other staff employees participating in the MWCCS.
- Oversee budget, including independent management of personnel and sub-contracts.
- Assist Investigators in writing, preparing, and submitting grant applications.
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience
- Master’s Degree in Epidemiology/biostatistics and 3-5 years of related experience preferred.
- Experience with research protocol management, personnel management, IRB, and quality assurance preferred. Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to work with diverse population and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment and respond to multiple demands. Ability to work independently. Good management and leadership skills. Knowledge of clinical research and IRB helpful.
