Top-tier $5B credit relative value hedge fund seeks a Junior Database Administrator who will be responsible for support and maintenance of production, development SQL Server databases & all aspects of database administration. This position is responsible for addressing escalations of database issues, communicating with trading and other departments and resolving related issues. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, imaginative, innovative, easy to work with, and exhibits a proactive thought process to better support our trading/other departments. This position is located in the New York City office.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
o Perform database installation, maintenance, updates, performance, tuning and migrations.
o Monitor the performance of databases and servers.
o Perform backups, restores, transforms and loads.
o Troubleshoot database issues, address database alerts and resolve issues while working concurrently with competing priorities.
o Administer, maintain, develop and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the database.
o Work with other departments on database daily support activities like object migration, rollouts & SQL development etc.
o Provide coverage of databases for nightly support processes.
o Administration and technical support of tools including but not limited to Tableau, ActiveBatch, Snowflake & Matillion
o Provide 24×7 on-call, keep productions, disaster recovery, developments infrastructure in sync, backups, restores and security administration.
o Evaluate and recommend database management system products. Perform database and software life-cycle activities to ensure highest level of system performance and compliance with business requirements.
Education and Experience:
o Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience (Required).
o Possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in SQL Server Database Administration, supporting current version releases of Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment (Required).
o MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Administration Certification (Preferred)
o Experience in supporting Financial Systems databases, Experience in Financial industry (Preferred)
o AWS (RDS) experience (Preferred).
Preferred additional knowledge and experience:
o SSAS,SSIS, ETL – Extracting and/or loading data.
o High Availability experience (Cluster, Always On, Log Shipping)
o Have knowledge of the standalone database installation and upgrade process.
o Strong background of Query performance tuning
o Knowledge of tools like Tableau, ActiveBatch, Snowflake, Matillion a plus
o Scripting/Automation (Python/Powershell/etc).
