DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF HEALTHHEALTH DEPARTMENTSALARY: $79,159 – $124,492 ANNUALIZED REMOVAL DATE: October 23, 2020The Deputy Director of Health provides administrative direction, guides the operations of public health programs through subordinate division supervisors. Duties include but are not limited to: ensures program consistency with the department’s mission and vision, and adherence to grant and contract requirements; interprets department policies and provides direction to subordinate managers; coordinates the integration of programs that involve multiple programs or units; oversees program budgets and expenditures; represents Public Health Services in external community coalition meetings; may act as liaison to community organizations and to other City departments on issues pertaining to public health programs.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Master’s Degree in Public Health or closely related field, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: At least three years of progressively responsible experience in coordinating a health program or service. Previous experience providing administrative oversight to federal and private grant programs is highly recommended. Knowledge of modern principles and practices, methods and techniques of public health. Knowledge of state and local laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to the field of public health. knowledge of New Haven Public Health Code, or ability to learn local codes in a reasonable amount of time. Proven supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment, with the ability to assign, train, supervise and evaluate work of staff members. Knowledge of Public Health Accreditation process. Knowledge of municipal budgeting process.
