The Department of State Hospitals-Napa is accepting applications for a fulltime, permanent Nurse Instructor in the Training and Education Center. Duties will include teaching in a Psychiatric Technician program for Napa Valley College as well as teaching for the Training and Education Center providing instruction to all disciplines in classrooms and on units for new employees and annual mandated training when Psychiatric Technician programs are not in session.
Instructors are required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings throughout the hospital and clinical sites as determined by operational needs.

Desirable qualifications include one-year experience working in skilled nursing, teaching in a community college and/or Psychiatric Technician training program, teaching credential, and/or a BSN degree and two years recent experience in nursing.
Knowledge of: General and psychiatric nursing principles and techniques in planning, organizing, and conducting educational courses in general and psychiatric nursing and related subjects; and medical and psychiatric terminology.
Ability to: Apply the principles, methods, and techniques involved in conducting training courses in general and psychiatric nursing and related subjects; supervise on-the-job training of students; evaluate the progress of students; communicate effectively; and keep records and prepare reports.
Special Personal Characteristics: Aptitude for and interest in teaching nursing; sympathetic understanding of mental patients, inmates, or wards; emotional stability; patience, tact, and alertness.
