College Internship Program
The following positions are available on a non-paid basis to work as a, Student intern for college credit.
Paralegal Team of Interns:
General Purpose:
Assist and provide a range of legal support and administration to lawyers and other legal professionals engaged in Securities, Non-Profit, Sports & Entertainment, Real Estate, Corporate, Tax, Civil, or Administrative law.
Main Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform legal and factual research
· Research and draft for review all related forms and applications for submission to these agencies:
Securities and Exchange Commission
FINRA
Other state and government related agencies
· Research and draft formal responses to the following agencies:
Internal Revenue Service
Franchise Tax Board
Other state and government related agencies
· Perform records research
· Identify relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes and other pertinent material
· Organize and analyze information
· Cross-check and validate information
· Prepare written reports
· Draft legal documents including briefs, pleadings, appeals, agreements, contracts and legal memoranda
· Assist in the preparation of legal arguments, applications, declarations and motions
· Prepare correspondence
· Verify and edit legal forms and documents for accuracy
· Develop and maintain an electronic databases and filing system
· Organize and track case files
· Review and monitor new and updated laws and regulations
· Create and maintain law library
· Co-ordinate law office activities such as subpoena delivery
· Locate and interview witnesses
· Assist with trial preparation including witness lists, exhibits and trial binders
· Assist the lawyer in the courtroom
Education and Experience:
· Currently enrolled in a course of study in one of the following programs:
Master’s degree
Bachelor’s degree
Associate’s degree
Qualified certificate program in paralegal studies
· Paralegal certification is helpful but not required
· Developing knowledge of legal principles and practices
· Developing knowledge of legal research techniques
· Developing knowledge of legal terminology
· Developing knowledge of legal communication principles and practices
· Developing knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations
Developing a relevant computer software knowledge and experience on Lexus Nexis, Westlaw, and other legal resource tools
