For the duration of RCSD’s remote learning model, this position will be on-site at the EnCompass Learning Hub.
SUMMARY:
EnCompass teachers at School 17 provide intervention supports for students in grades K-8 who are reading below grade level. The person in this role will develop, implement, and deliver innovative, student-centered reading instruction to help students build the skills and strategies they need to become lifelong readers.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assess students’ strengths, challenges, gaps in skills and knowledge, learning style and performance levels using a variety of methods and data sources; interpret findings and develop individualized learning plans based upon information gathered
2. Provide individual and/or small-group differentiated instruction to build skills in specific academic subjects, executive functions, and social-emotional competencies
3. Monitor student attendance, grades, and behavior; regularly confer with students to celebrate accomplishments and develop support plans for addressing areas of need
4. Develop and implement incentive initiatives for students and parents around attendance, grades, and behavior
5. Conduct home visits, as needed and when feasible, to build a relationship with the family, learn more about the student from the family’s perspective, and to inform the family about the program and the student’s progress. Home visits may also be conducted to address chronic absenteeism or as warranted by other circumstances.
6. Document services delivered in EnCompass Manager, monitor progress toward goals, and administer periodic assessments to measure outcomes
7. Provide ongoing support to students, parents, teachers, and other professionals involved with the student through meetings, telephone calls, and e-mail communication
8. In collaboration with school-based teams, develop vehicles to communicate with families to share student progress and strategies to support learning, attendance, and engagement
9. Participate in team meetings to discuss the progress and needs of individual students and to share instructional strategies that foster achievement for students with different learning styles
10. Attend all required Professional Development opportunities at EnCompass and School 17, as determined by Program Administrator
11. Develop knowledge of and become actively involved in the culture and life of School 17 through participation in school activities and special events outside of school time, such as sporting or arts events
12. Partner with EnCompass Navigation team to identify community and resource needs; support the delivery of wrap services
13. Identify youth who need more intensive services; refer youth and families to Family Navigation, when appropriate
14. Perform other duties assigned by the employee’s supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum – Bachelor’s in Education or relevant field
• Preference – Experience with elementary reading intervention
• Preference – NYS Certification in Childhood Education (grades 1-6), Literacy (birth-grade 6), or related content area; experience in a diverse school setting
