Internship Expires January 1, 2025

*FOR IMMEDIATE PLACEMENT* Honeysuckle Magazine, an award-winning, women-owned media company, seeks a part-time grant writing intern for approximately 10-20 hours per week (hours may vary based on schedule and grant calendar). Honeysuckle focuses on socially-conscious themes including social issues, race, culture, gender and sexuality and the environment. As we prepare for our next phase of operation, we are anchoring these tenets of our coverage into initiatives with greater sociocultural impact. Our grant writer will work closely with our publisher and editors to identify and maintain applicable resources for these initiatives. In addition to grants, we will also be exploring avenues for crowdfunding and other program-based support, efforts in which our grant writer will be instrumental.

The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented and organized, able to prioritize tasks and work quickly and efficiently in a deadline-oriented environment. Prior experience with grantwriting or relevant development/funding experience required (does not need to be within journalism sector); must have excellent writing and analytical skills and a basic familiarity with the financial and budgetary requirements of standard grant applications. The candidate should be able to develop an understanding of Honeysuckle’s core missions and values, and present them in appealing, accurate and concise ways. Must exercise keen judgment, discretion, and diplomacy. Must be able to think critically and be flexible to time-sensitive situations as they arise. Prior publishing or media experience strongly preferred.

Please apply including a writing sample of a previous grant proposal letter or mockup letter. Possible commission based on placement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Conduct prospect research for grants applicable to the company

· Develop and write grant proposals, narratives, and Letters of Intent for the company, persuasively communicating the company missions and initiatives in order to secure funding (please note this may include company financial information)

· Prepare grant proposals, reports, and other necessary documentation to funders as required

· Research and prepare profiles for foundations, corporations, and individual funders as needed

· Maintain records for submission deadlines, renewals, and reporting

· Communicate by email, phone, and letter with potential funders where necessary, including but not limited to responding to requests for information and submitting official letters of inquiry

· Help brainstorm and spearhead campaigns for crowdfunding and program-based initiatives as needed

· All work will be done remotely and schedule is flexible, but a willingness to be “on call” at various times is a plus

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Superb written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to articulate outcomes and to interpret and present program and financial information
  • Deadline-oriented
  • Able to take independent initiative
  • Ability to organize and schedule work effectively
  • Effectively plan workload and follows through to completion
  • High level of proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word and Excel)
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast paced environment
  • Previous experience in the publishing/media/entertainment fields or other relevant experience is a plus
