Overview: The Indiana Medical Scientist/Engineer Training Program’s Undergraduate Summer 2025 Research Program is designed for high-performing undergraduate students committed to pursuing an integrated clinical and research career and want to pursue combined-degree training in an MD/PhD Program. Students will conduct independent research under the mentorship of an IU School of Medicine faculty member, shadow a clinical mentor, and network with current practicing physician-scientists and current MSTP students at Indiana University.

Location: Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis IN
Eligibility: The program is open to undergraduate students who have completed their freshman, sophomore, or junior years with some coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, social and behavioral sciences, or engineering. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and be citizens or permanent residents of the US. Prior research experience is preferred but not required.
Compensation: $4000 plus free summer housing on campus, if needed.
Areas of research include Biomedical Engineering, Cancer and Hematologic Diseases, Cardiovascular and Kidney Diseases, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, Global Health Issues (biomedical research), Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Musculoskeletal Diseases, Neuroscience, and Addiction, and Social and Behavioral Sciences (in aging).
Candidates will have a choice in their assigned research area.
