Associate Mountmaker (Regular, Part-time)
Conservation Center
Reporting to the Mountmaking Manager of the Conservation center, the Associate Mountmaker is responsible for fabricating and installing the structures that safely support collections of artworks and artifacts while they are on exhibit. This is a hands-on opportunity with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. LACMA hosts numerous exhibitions, installations, and loans per year from its encyclopedic collection, and is dedicated to the acquisition, conservation, display, and interpretation of these objects.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in metal fabrication using the following equipment: TIG welder, drill press, milling machine, grinders, oxy-acetylene torch, and bandsaw.
- Must possess accuracy and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of proper art handling protocols.
- Knowledge of Conservation practices and standards.
- Must be able to organize time and meet deadlines.
- Will be required to lift heavy objects at times.
- Excellent communication skills and a desire to work cooperatively with curators, art installers, and conservation staff.
- Must be flexible to work onsite, or travel to offsite locations when needed.
- Ability to adapt to varying project needs.
- Knowledge of computer-based design programs will be an advantage, but optional.

Benefits:
- The expected hourly for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $29.00 – $30.00, subject to change.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in fine art, jewelry design, industrial arts, or an acceptable equivalent in education and experience.
- A minimum of three years of Mountmaking experience, with seismic Mountmaking skills preferred.
- A minimum of three years of artifact handling or collection handling experience, preferably in a museum environment.
