Our year-long New Graduate Nurse Residency program provides the mentoring and support you need to transition from student to professional nurse. You’ll be provided a three to six month unit-based orientation, attend monthly seminars and learning activities, formulate an individual professional development plan, and complete an evidence-based practice project related to a unit specialty of your choice.
Each of our new graduate positions requires a minimum two-year, full-time commitment with your unit at MedStar Georgetown. By working at one of the country’s top hospitals, you’ll establish a strong professional foundation.

The New Graduate Nurse Residency, beginning July 2021, is intended for Spring/Summer 2021 graduates of accredited BSN programs. Fall/Winter 2020 BSN graduates will also be considered and July/August 2021 graduates can be considered for a start date in August/September.

Candidates who complete the Nursing Career Battery and meet minimum requirements may be contacted for an interview. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and interview invitations will begin to be extended in January. At the interview, you will be asked to submit:

General Summary of Position:
A nurse is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduation from an accredited Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: 1) must be waiting for results of NCLEX exam (first sitting) already taken; OR 2) must have set a NCLEX exam date (first sitting) within 2 months of GUH hire/start date OR 3) must have successfully completed the NCLEX and is awaiting DC Nursing Licensure. No Graduate Nurse Technician can be in this classification if they have already failed boards, or if they do not set a NCLEX exam date within two months after hire/start. BLS required.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience as a nursing assistant or nurse tech desired. Satisfactory references from the school of nursing attended.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform the nursing technologies. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to set priorities and work under stress.

Participates in professional development activities.
Incorporates evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery.
