The Graduate Nurse (GN) is recent nursing school graduate who will work in an unlicensed position, prior to taking the NCLEX exam. The GN is responsible for the provision of nursing care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN). The GN applies the nursing process and performs delegated functions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Health philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards. In collaboration with the patient and family, provides theory-based nursing care and coordinates care delivery with various members of the interdisciplinary team.
The Clinical Nurse I is a licensed professional care provider who assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the nursing care of patients from admission through discharge. In collaboration with the patient and family, provides theory-based professional nursing care and coordinates care delivery with various members of the interdisciplinary team.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited nursing program is preferred. Associate degree in nursing is required. Associate degree graduates will be required to enroll in an accredited Bachelor’s of Nursing program within six months of beginning employment and will have three years to complete the program.
Experience: No experience required. Prior experience as a licensed practical nurse, nursing assistant, nurse technician or nurse extern is preferred. Satisfactory reference from the school of nursing attended.
Graduate Nurse – License/Cert/Reg: Must secure an NCLEX test date within 30 days of hire and the test date is no longer than 90 days from date of hire. (NOTE: must stop practicing immediately as a GN if fails NCLEX licensure examination). CPR certification required
Clinical Nurse I – License/Cert/Reg: Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state or jurisdiction of the facility seeking employment, or Multistate Compact state or license eligible. CPR certification required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to set priorities and work under stress. Basic computer skills required.
