ReGeneration Schools is a nonprofit school management organization that’s dedicated to revitalizing failing schools through a college prep and character mission. We manage three elementary Chicago International Charter Schools (CICS) on the south-side of Chicago, IL: CICS Avalon, CICS Basil, and CICS Washington Park. ReGeneration currently serves over 1,600 low- income students, with over 93% of our students identifying as African-American. We are seeking an experienced full-time Certified School Nurse (ISBE PEL certified) to join our ReGeneration School network for the 2020-2021 school year. Under the direction of the Director of Special Education and the ReGeneration administrative staff, the School Nurse will coordinate comprehensive health services for our three elementary schools (K-8): CICS Avalon, CICS Basil, and CICS Washington Park. The Certified School Nurse will serve as a team member in providing preventive services, early identification of problems, interventions, and referrals to foster health and educational success. The Certified School Nurse will provide direct care to students including assessment and treatment within the scope of professional nursing practice, communication with parents, referral to physicians, and provision or supervision of prescribed nursing care. To that end, School Nurse facilitates positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

1-5 years of school nurse experience in an urban setting.
Valid and current Type 73 State of Illinois School Service Personnel certificate with endorsement in School Nursing REQUIRED.
Registered Illinois Nurse Licensure REQUIRED.
CPR certification required.
Bachelor Degree from an accredited institution required.
Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff including nursing assessments, identifying health problems, making referrals for diagnosis and treatment, recommending educational modifications, providing follow-up and evaluation, and maintaining appropriate documentation.
Recommend and provide screening and follow up for deficits in vision, hearing, and growth and development, and other physical deficits.
Participate in special education team meetings to identify, evaluate and write the health component of the IEP as indicated in accordance with state and federal mandates timelines and procedures.
Develop and maintain current heath care plans for students who need special nursing interventions during the school day.
Maintain communication with administrators, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of students.
Initiate contact with and act as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.
Review all existing data and determine if additional assessments are needed to evaluate the individual needs of the student.
Provide health information and counseling for students, parents and staff.
Administer and prepare health assessment reports based on student’s health and development status.
Maintain accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state mandates. Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.
