Overview: ICRW is currently seeking a full-time Communications Specialist with either three (3) years of professional, relevant experience with a Master’s degree or five (5) years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree. We are seeking someone who can help drive the implementation of ICRW’s communication plans and needs, across public web and digital platforms; produce written and visual content; support ICRW’s advocacy efforts; and carry out media relations and other public outreach activities. This position reports to the Senior Communications Manager.Primary Duties: Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Communications, the CommunicationsSpecialist will be responsible for executing an integrated communications plan that cuts across platforms and institutional ‘portfolios’ of work.Copy edits research briefs and reports for all portfolios and support quality assurance plan implementation; experience in one or more of ICRW’s issue areas is preferred but not required.Writes press releases, media advisories In the News stories for ICRW’s website; and opinion pieces and blogs on behalf of research and other senior staff.Support execution of communications plans, leveraging all of ICRW’s digital platforms to raise visibility and increase web traffic.Provides support in conceptualizing and executing fundraising activities, as needed.Supports management of web content, search engine optimization (SEO), graphics and newsletters.Supports the planning and implementation of high level ‘thought leadership’ events.Required Skills & Education: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills for a wide range of audiences.Experience working on international development issues.Some experience with high level public events.Experience executing integrated strategic communication plans across digital and print platforms.Experience in media relations and outreach, including proactive media placement/earned media.Experience managing and/or executing online advocacy or marketing campaigns.Some knowledge and experience in basic graphics, editing photos, working with Adobe (preferred: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PDF) and Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) products.Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, international relations/development.Preferred Skills:Background in gender issues.Master’s degree in relevant fields of study.Experience with MailChimp, Every action, or similar email, event and fundraising platform.Experience with Salesforce.Knowledge of online marketing techniques including best practices for SEO.Ability to measure web trends using tools such as Google Analytics, Google AdWord, and understanding of analytics.Experience working outside of the United StatesSecond language skills, particularly Spanish or French.How to Apply: Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, two writing samples.
