Applicants must be U.S. citizens and currently enrolled in college. Prior to the scheduled day camps, Near-Peer Mentors will receive training and collaborate with the primary instructors. During the day camp, Near-Peer Mentors will interact with middle and high school participants full time by assisting and/or leading task assignments to include: laboratory experiments, coding (block and Python), engineering, and robotics.Responsibilities Include:Supervising studentsPreparing laboratory materials and presentationsInterfacing with Army Scientists and EngineersLearning protocols and proceduresWorking in teams to guide interns through curriculum and challengesHelping students foster positive attitudes toward STEM education and careersActing as a role model and mentor for the GEMS student interns in middle and high schoolUSAMRDC Fort Detrick GEMS is located in Frederick County at Hood CollegeTraining:June 24-July 2 for the First SessionJuly 26-30 for the Second SessionProgram (8am-4pm): July 5-9; July 12-16; July 19-23; August 2-6; August 9-13; August 16-20Stipend amount is based on completed semester hours as well as experience.
