The Washington International Diplomatic Academy (WIDA) is an independent organization that provides practical professional training in diplomacy and international affairs.
Diplomatic Diary is an online publication launched by WIDA in June 2020 to provide content on the practice of diplomacy in all its aspects, as well as on the diplomatic lifestyle. The content is intended to complement WIDA’s training programs in educating a new generation of diplomats. In an effort to keep the Diary free of subscription fees and advertising, it has a small all-volunteer staff.
The intern will assist the editors in coordinating long-term and short-term planning for the Diplomatic Diary, selecting topics, recruiting writers with diplomatic experience and helping them craft thoughtful, insightful and impactful articles. The incumbent may be asked to contribute writing, provide content-editing, perform research and carry out other tasks as needed.
The intern will have flexible hours, totaling 10-20 hours a week (some weeks may be busier than others). During COVID-19, they will work remotely and do not have to be based in the Washington, D.C. area.
The ideal candidates will be students or recent graduates with excellent writing, editing and research skills, as well as background in or solid knowledge of international affairs. They should possess creativity in generating and shaping ideas for unique and meaningful content.
To apply, please submit a statement of interest, résumé and two non-academic writing samples. Candidates of diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
