Call for Applications: the 2021 PhD Career Exploration Fellowship (CEF) Program!

The Grad Student/Postdoctoral Fellow Team is excited to announce the opening of applications for the 2021 PhD Career Exploration Fellowship (CEF) Program! Fully virtual this year, the CEF program allows current doctoral students at Penn to explore careers beyond the tenure-track through one-on-one mentoring with an advance degree holding professional. This year, we have added a number of new hosts, including Janssen, Walmart, and Poverty Solutions, among others. CEF participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a series of professional development programs hosted by Penn Career Services.

Full details about the program, including host descriptions and application information, can be found on our program webpage.

Here are some of the testimonials from PhD students who participated in the 2020 CEF program:

  • “Prior to the CEF, the only thing I knew for certain was that I didn’t want a career in academia. This fellowship really helped me gain a lot of different perspectives and think deeply about my career development.”
  • “The CEF fellowship helped me imagine a future where I could be intellectually challenged…I left the CEF feeling more confident in my abilities as a professional and more open to multiple career paths.”
  • “The fellowship helped me clarify my own strengths and think about how the experiences and skills I have from graduate education have prepared me for other careers.”
