This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work for an organization called Connect-In-Place (CIP). I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the funders who made this experience possible. Without their support, I would not have had the chance to be a part of this life-changing program.
During my time at CIP, I had the privilege of developing valuable skills that have shaped me both personally and professionally. As a mentor and instructor, I learned how to create structured courses that challenged students to “explore topics not typically found on the internet” (in the words of one highschooler). This experience fundamentally changed the way I view my own college courses, showing that education can be and should be so much more than just absorbing information. It’s about engaging with students in a meaningful way and empowering them to think critically and independently.
One of the most rewarding aspects of working with CIP was the opportunity to mentor and teach students. Being able to share my knowledge and expertise with young minds eager to learn was incredibly fulfilling. Many of the students expressed their gratitude for the chance to be a part of the program, and it warmed my heart to hear that they hoped to learn from me again in the future.
Connect-In-Place truly stood out for its unique approach to education. The organization facilitated small, interactive classes that foster connections among students while providing mentorship from college students at prominent universities. This dynamic setup allows for a more personal and effective learning experience. Students not only gain knowledge but also build meaningful relationships with their mentors, who understand how they learn and can guide them on their academic journey. The impact of CIP extended beyond the classroom. The organization is committed to bridging the digital divide, recognizing that access to technology is essential for students’ educational success. Through our work in fundraising, students with financial need were provided with laptops, leveling the playing field and empowering them to participate fully in their education.
I was deeply inspired by the passion and dedication of the team at Connect-In-Place. Their commitment to empowering young minds and closing the educational gap is commendable. Working alongside these individuals has motivated me to continue giving back to the community and making a positive impact on the lives of others.
In conclusion, my summer experience with Connect-In-Place has been nothing short of transformative. I am incredibly grateful for the funding that made this opportunity possible and for the chance to develop valuable skills while making a difference in the lives of young learners. Connect-In-Place has reaffirmed my belief in the power of education and mentorship, and I will carry the lessons I learned here with me throughout my life’s journey. As one student told me “Connect-In-Place is the besttttt!” and I wholeheartedly agree.
