POSITION SUMMARY
The Downstream Process Development Intern will provide hands-on assistance to the Formulation team to execute lab-scale experiments for the development of robust, scalable formulations and processes for the manufacture of stable live microbial products. In addition, the intern will complete an independent project related to the group’s goals.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and execute formulation experiments based on direction from senior members of the Downstream Process Development team.
- Characterize formulation prototypes for physical properties and stability.
- Record formulation experiments and characterization data in laboratory notebooks
- Prepare and present research data and observations at periodic team meetings.
- Complete independent projects; design, execute, document, and analyze experiments.
- Follow best practices to comply with all safety regulations in lab areas.
- Deliver results under agreed-upon timelines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree and or advancement to candidacy in a Ph.D. program in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Experience in a biotechnological laboratory conducting experiments with minimal supervision.
- Hands-on experience in the development of solid-state formulations such as powders and granules through a variety of granulation, coating, and microencapsulation techniques
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Some experience with the formulation of microbes
- Experience in statistical analysis and Design of Experiment techniques
- Experience with aseptic techniques
