Monday, October 23: Exploring Career Options
10-10:30 AM: Navigating your Master’s Program with Purpose: How to Set 5 Professional Goals | Virtual
Your time as a master’s student at Penn will move quickly. Whether you are here to pivot your career in a new direction, or are not sure what direction you’d like to go after you complete your master’s degree, taking the time to set some goals for your time at Penn will help you! AI tools can be immensely helpful as part of the process of career exploration or when you are actively on the job search. Many employers use applicant tracking software to manage the 100s applications they may receive for internships or jobs. Recruiters use this software to determine if there is a good match between your skills and the requirements of the position, and keywords in your resume are an important part of this. In this mini-workshop, learn how you can use the freely available parts of the tool Targeted Resume to compare your resume with internship/job descriptions, and how you can use this to create a better keyword match when you apply for positions.

Penn’s alumni network stretches far and wide – but how do you go about finding the right person to connect with? In this mini-workshop, we will walk through how to search for and find relevant alumni using myPenn – a searchable database of over 470,000 Penn alumni. We will touch on what you can write when reaching out, and where to look if you can’t find a great email address to get the conversation started.

LinkedIn is one of the most powerful networking and job search tools out there – if you are going to be applying to jobs or internships in the near future, having a strong profile is a must. Bring your laptop to Career Services’ first ever LinkedIn Lab for grad students. Share your profile with other grad students and offer feedback to other students. Drop in anytime between 1-3 PM and make your edits on the spot.

1-2 PM: The Job Search for International Graduate Students Q&A with ISSS | Virtual
International graduate students will follow the same steps along the job search process as their domestic peers, but there are certainly unique challenges that they will encounter along the way. In this Q&A session, advisors from Penn Career Services and International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will talk about ways to manage some of these challenges, and will answer questions from students submitted prior to this session and in the chat during the session. As part of this conversation, we will highlight key resources that you will find helpful.
