Job Description
The mission of the Boston Public Health Commission is to work in partnership with communities to protect and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, especially those impacted by racism and systemic inequities.
DUTIES: In addition to all duties in Program Coordinator I, Program Coordinator II will perform these duties:
Assist in developing, implementing and managing a middle or high school Youth to Health Careers Program.
Coordinate comprehensive summer and academic year program activities (i.e. clubs, tutoring, internships, mentoring, community service, college prep, and field trips).
Help to coordinate the Youth Advisory Board.
Liaise with BPS representatives to monitor student progress and track graduates of the program.
Help recruit, liaise with, and evaluate internship preceptors at area health providers, including hospitals and community health centers.
Provide information and guidance to students and families entering the post-secondary preparation process.
Ensure regular attendance at all program activities.
Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians to apprise them of student performance and progress.
Regularly input program data for tracking outcomes.
Complete monthly and annual progress reports.
Participate in evaluation processes to determine the effectiveness of educational programs, instructors, activities, materials and services. Performs other duties as required.
This job description is based on the Program Coordinator Series. May be required to perform any and all duties and responsibilities of a Coordinator II, as set forth in the BPHC Coordinator Series.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Policy Administration, or a related discipline, such as sociology, organizational psychology, public health nursing, or health communications required; OR BA/BS and 2 years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing; OR 5 years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing may be substituted for undergraduate degree. Demonstrated experience coordinating and implementing complex projects related to education and/or health is strongly preferred.
Ability to write clear, concise reports and to follow and give written and oral instructions in a precise and understandable manner.
Experience developing, implementing and facilitating lesson plans and group activities strongly preferred.
Ability to supervise youth, particularly when it comes to evaluating and motivating students.
Knowledge of positive youth development principles helpful, including a familiarity with progressive discipline models.
Ability and experience working with diverse populations.
This position requires direct client/patient contact and as a result of such direct contact, certain immunizations will be recommended and/or required prior to commencement of employment duties.

Boston residency required, or willingness to relocate to Boston.
