About our Residency Program:
Our residency program is a unique experience to jumpstart your career as a Registered Nurse, knowing and anticipating your needs and challenges in your first year of nursing practice. Our 12 month program compliments the nurse/preceptor relationship and gives you the tools you need establish your foundation in the profession.
Meritus Medical Center utilizes The Vizient/AACN Nursing Residency ProgramTM which is trusted by more than 550 hospitals and health systems nationwide, and adopted as the state model for Hawaii, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency ProgramTM (NRP) focuses on new graduate nurses as they enter practice resulting in a retention rate of 91.5% vs the national average of 82.5%.
Associate degree RN’s will be required to obtain a BSN within 3 years of employment.
These are the ONLY units that will be hiring new graduates at this time:
- 2 East (Medical Surgical)
- An 18 bed medical/surgical observation unit with an 8 bed pediatric medical surgical unit. Focus of care is the pediatric medical surgical patient, including pediatric trauma patients. Care is also provided to female medical surgical patients with concentration of gynecological, bariatric surgical and 23 hour surgical patients (male and female).
- 3 West (Joints/Rehab)
- A department that consists of a 10 bed unit for total joint replacement patients and an 18 bed CARF licensed unit that serves 100% inpatients with all types of traditional rehab diagnosis, and less frequently, patients with non-traditional diagnosis or conditions that present the patient with physical or cognitive deficits.
- 4 South (Clinical Decision Unit)
- A 27 bed Outpatient Observation Unit which provides care for patients who arrive in the ED and after evaluation by the ED physician are determined to be in stable condition but require further observation or treatment
- 5 East (Medical Surgical)
- A 28-bed medical/surgical, palliative, oncology and renal patient care unit. Clinical functions provided include palliative care, pain control including PCA/PCEA, chemotherapy and biotherapy administration, peritoneal dialysis, blood transfusions, oxygen therapy, wound therapy, and IV therapy.
- 5 South (Medical Surgical)
- A 28-bed general medical, telemetry, stroke unit that has been designated as the Hospitalists’ Unit. Clinical functions provided include medication administration including PCA/PCEA, intravenous therapy, oxygen therapy, blood transfusions, wound care, and the use and maintenance of specialized equipment.
- Emergency Department
- A 52 bed unit; level 3 trauma/stroke/stemi center that provides emergency treatment and stabilization for a comprehensive range of illness and injury to 76,000 patients annually of all ages. IVAP (Inter-personnel Violence and Abuse Program) provides 24 hour/7 day per week coverage for victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse.
- Operating Room
- 14 surgical suites that perform a multitude of specialties including robotics, neurosurgery, total joints, orthopedic trauma, urology, retinal and ob/gyn surgeries.

Requirements
- Education – Graduation from an accredited nursing program .
- Licensure/Certification – Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland or by Compact required. CPR required.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Ability to apply the standards of professional nursing practice with compassion and empathy. Basic computer skills required. Must posses high level of organizational and communication skills.
